conventional gold jewelry not only appeals to the gold topic but also carries the social and cultural context. the contemporary metal crafts that emerged from traditional metal works are infused with the concept of artworks and the use of composite materials, exhibiting the form and aesthetics of conventional metal works.
vintage gold jewelry
gold has long been linked to life rituals in traditional taiwanese society. each family, to some degree, keeps old gold jewelry as a memento of significant life moments. the exhibition features five themes, including “jewelry stores,” “joy of new life,” “prosperity and longevity,” “aesthetics of daily life,” and “religious symbols.” from jewelry stores that produce jewelry to the idea that gold jewelry symbolizes different life stages, the exhibition highlights the close connection between gold and people and also showcases the craftsmanship and spirit behind traditional gold jewelry.
a new artistic vision in metal craft
contemporary metal crafts derive from traditional crafts like forging and inlaying, but they also push beyond traditional functions and decorative limits. these works focus more on conceptual expression and often involve experimental, interdisciplinary approaches. they include jewelry, sculpture, devices, installation art, and functional objects. a variety of materials are used, such as gold, silver, bronze, and other precious metals, along with titanium, steel, stainless steel, recycled metals, and even non-metallic materials like plastic, wood, and ceramics. combining these materials creates striking contrasts and gives the works an innovative appearance.
